Our Story

An original homestead, lovingly kept.

Tucked into the rolling hills of San Juan Island, our home is one of the original homesteads on the island — built in the 1880s and quietly cared for ever since. The floors creak a little. The light through the kitchen window is the same it was a century ago.

What was once a working farmstead is now a place for travelers to land softly. The main house is ours; the detached cottage out back is entirely yours — a small, private world set apart by garden and quiet.

And when you arrive, you'll find a warm loaf of Debbie's homemade bread waiting on the kitchen counter. It's a small thing, and it's the whole point.

Why guests return

Small touches. Big quiet.

We don't try to be a hotel. We try to be the kind of stop you'll think about months later, when winter sets in and you want to go back.

🍞

Debbie's fresh bread

A warm loaf is waiting on the counter when you arrive — baked that morning, sliced when you're ready, paired beautifully with island butter and quiet mornings.

🏡

Your own cottage

The detached guest house is fully self-contained: kitchenette, private bath, soft linens, and a porch of your own. You'll feel like you live here — because for a few days, you do.

🌲

The whole island

Whale-watching boats, lavender farms, the Friday Harbor waterfront, and the slow back roads of San Juan Island — all within a short drive or a long, lovely walk.

A cozy cottage bedroom with white linens and morning light.
A small, light-filled cottage kitchen.
A clawfoot tub by a window with morning light.
The Cottage

A private guest house, set apart from the main home.

The cottage sits a short stroll from the main house — close enough for a fresh loaf of bread, far enough for a true escape. It sleeps two comfortably, with thoughtful period touches and modern comforts where they matter most.

  • Queen bed with linen sheets & a wool blanket for cool island nights
  • Private bath with a deep clawfoot tub and walk-in shower
  • Kitchenette with kettle, drip coffee, and a small cast-iron stove
  • Wood-floored porch with two chairs and a view of the garden
  • Books, blankets, and a record player — no televisions
  • Fresh-cut flowers and that loaf of bread on arrival
The cottage felt like our own small house for the weekend. The bread on the kitchen counter — still warm — was the kindest welcome I can remember.

Outside Your Door

San Juan Island, at the pace it deserves.

From orca pods in the Salish Sea to a working lavender farm down the road, Friday Harbor is the rare town that hasn't lost its softness. Here's how guests tend to spend their days.

01

Whale Watching

Boats leave from Friday Harbor each morning — resident orca pods, humpbacks, harbor seals, and bald eagles overhead.

02

Friday Harbor Town

A four-minute drive: independent shops, dock-fresh seafood, a great bookstore, and the ferry's coming and going.

03

Lavender & Lighthouses

Pelindaba Lavender Farm in summer; Lime Kiln Point in any season, where the orcas come closest to shore.

04

Slow Back Roads

Rent bikes or drive the long way home. The island is small enough to know in a weekend, and large enough to keep surprising you.
